How to Care for Your Venetian Gold Jewelry

Venetian Gold is an 18-karat gold patina, applied by hand to nickel-free brass. Like any patina, it requires some care: a few simple steps will help your jewelry retain its luster over time.

These tips apply to all our designs, including the silver version, which is coated with a layer of palladium and rhodium. Nickel-free brass makes our jewelry hypoallergenic, but its surface is still delicate and deserves your care. Here are the steps we recommend, from daily wear to nighttime storage.

Everyday Activities

The rule is simple: put on your jewelry last and take it off first. Its main enemies are water and cosmetics.

  • Take it off before getting wet. Whether you’re taking a shower, a bath, swimming in a pool, or at the beach, water can damage the patina. Also, take off your jewelry before exercising and before going to sleep.
  • Keep it away from cosmetics. Perfumes, lotions, oils, and household products can dull the surface. Apply your perfume, let your skin dry, and then put on your jewelry.
  • Wipe it down after each use. Gently wiping it with a soft, dry cloth removes everyday marks before they set in.

Also, remember to take off your rings before cleaning or gardening: household cleaning products and repeated friction can damage the patina.

Cleaning

The best way to care for your jewelry is also the simplest: after each time you wear it, gently wipe it with a soft, dry cloth. It only takes a few seconds to maintain its patina.

On the other hand, avoid anything abrasive or chemical:

  • Do not use jewelry cleaner or an ultrasonic cleaner;
  • no toothpaste, baking soda, or abrasive sponges;
  • No soapy water: the patina doesn't like water, even lukewarm water.

If a mark remains even after wiping it with a cloth, don't keep trying. Contact us: we'll guide you through it.

Storage

When you’re not wearing your jewelry, store each piece separately in its own case or pouch, away from moisture and direct light. Each piece comes with its own case: this is the best way to prevent scratches between pieces of jewelry.

  • Close the clasps on necklaces and bracelets before storing them: this will prevent the chains from getting tangled.
  • Avoid using the bathroom as a storage space: it’s constantly damp in there.
  • Keep the original jewelry box: it protects your jewelry both in everyday life and when traveling.

Gently wipe it down with a soft, dry cloth—without using any cleaning products or applying excessive pressure. If that doesn't work, contact our Customer Service before trying anything else: some well-intentioned actions can damage the patina.
